Viticultural activity around the Andratx region of South West Mallorca has long been tradition since the Roman Colonisation of the island in the 1st century BC. The area has since played a significant role in the recognition of Mallorca as a region of quality wine production
The Santa Catarina Winery, just a few km from the town of Andratx, stands in the midst of the Serra Tramuntana mountain range and is fast becoming one of the larger wineries on the island. Founded by Swedish pioneer Stellan Lundquist, it cultivates just over 85 hectares of vineyards on Mallorca and uses both International varieties in its production, like Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Merlot as well as the unique indigenous Mallorcan grapes; Prensal Blanc, Mantonegro and Callet.
The majority of its vines are located in the centre of the island, close to the towns of Sineu and Sencelles where the famous “Call Vermell” soils are known for producing some of the best wines in Mallorca. The rest of the vines are scattered within the winery property itself.
